Generic Principen (Ampicilline)

Common use

Principen, the main component of which is Ampicilline, is used as an antibiotic of a special penicillins class. It helps you to kill bacteria in your organism and is mainly used to treat a lot of different infections: tonsillitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, urinary tract diseases and gonorrhoea. It is not effective in cases of colds or flu.



Dosage and direction

This medication is usually produced in pills or liquid form. The average starting dosage makes up 250-500 milligrams. The doses must be taken at equal intervals. Swallow the whole pill without chewing or crushing it. You should drink a lot of water during treatment in order to protect and save the kidneys. Medication must be swallowed on an empty stomach (30 minutes before or two hours after meals). The precise dosage is defined by your doctor according to the conditions of treatment and a particular infection.



Precautions

Be very careful if you have severe kidney diseases. This medication can have some inactive components which may provoke allergic reactions. Do not use Principen if the allergy to penicillins is observed. Pregnant women should refer to this drug only when it is clearly needed.

The main negative influences are allergic reaction, problems with breathing, urinary retention, turbid urine, fever, weakness, fatigue, unusual bleeding, redness, blistering, loosening of skin, vomiting, nausea, dizziness and headache, ringing in ears or loss of hearing , indigestion, bloating, stomach gas, cramps, diarrhoea, irregular heartbeat, loss of appetite and severe thirst.



Drug interaction

Allopurinol; pills, controlling birth; chloroquine and methotrexate; probenecid and other antibiotics like tetracycline or erythromycin can interact with Principen. Escape the listed medications and consult a physician if you are going to take some of them.



Missed dose

Take your medication as usual even when you have missed a presupposed dose. Never try to take a doubled dose. It is better to exclude the missed dose and swallow the next one.



Overdose

Seizures, light agitation, severe muscle spasms, coma, general weakness, loss of feeling in fingers or feet, confusion, pain in body and twitching are the main symptoms of overdose. If you have faced some of these negative overdose influences, refer to professional medical help at once.



Storage

The optimal storing temperature is 20 and 25 degrees C. Keep the pills away from children in a special closed container. Direct heat, light and moisture can cause damage to your medication.
