Generic Demadex (Torsemide )

Common use

Demadex is used as a diuretic helping to decrease the fluid retention caused by the congestive heart failure, a kidney disease and cirrhosis. As the active component, Torsemide does not allow your organism to absorb a lot of salt. All salts are removed from the organism with your urine. It is also prescribed to treat problems with blood pressure.



Dosage and direction

All pills must be swallowed with water to help it go through. Demadex can be taken with or without certain meal. However it is recommended to take the drug with food or milk if you have troubles with your stomach. This drug should not be swallowed at bedtime. The usual initial dose is 20 mg once during a day. Your doctor will define a particular dose depending on your health's condition and peculiarities of treatment.



Precautions

In cases when a patient has some of these conditions a doctor must know about them: anomalous blood electrolytes, diabetes, severe gout, a heart disease, kidney or liver disease, difficulties in urine passing, allergic responses to torsemide, some sulfa drugs, foodstuff, food dyes or preservatives, pregnancy or breast-feeding. Special medical attention may be needed if a child is treated with Demadex.



Contraindications

Pay attention to the contraindications that forbid using medication if you have any. They include: hypersensitivity to torasemid and sulfonamides, anuria, hepatic coma and precomatose condition, renal failure with increasing azotemia, hypotension, arrhythmia and pregnancy.



Possible side effect

There are some possible side influences which can be evoked by Demadex: skin rash or severe itching, hives, persistent swelling of the lips, eyes or throat, blood in urine, loss of hearing, irregular heartbeat, pain in muscles, severe weakness or cramps, difficulty passing urine, vomiting or diarrhea. Note that your doctor must know everything about the negative symptoms you experience during the treatment.



Drug interaction

Alcohol drinks, some antibiotics given with injection, some heart medicines, lithium, diuretics, diabetes and blood pressure medications, cholestyramine, muscles relaxing means for surgery, prednisone or cortisone and other steroid medicines can interact with Demadex.



Missed dose

Never try to take a doubled dose or extra doses. If you have skipped a portion, forget about it and continue to swallow the pills as usual.



Overdose

Refer to poison control centre or the nearest emergency room in cases of overdose. Forced urination, accompanied by hypovolemia, electrolyte derangement with decrease of blood pressure, drowsiness, confusion and collapse are usually observed in cases of overdose. If you face some of these negative symptoms you should find emergency service at once.



Storage

Store your pills at average room temperature which is defined between 15 and 30 degrees. Keep them away from small children and home pets. Throw out the unnecessary medication when the date is expired. Moisture, direct heat or persistent sunlight can spoil the tablets.
