Generic Brilinta (Ticagrelor)

Common use

Brilinta (ticagrelor) is prescribed to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) or a history of myocardial infarction. It works by inhibiting platelet aggregation, preventing blood clots from forming in arteries.

Dosage and direction

Brilinta is usually taken orally twice daily, with or without food. Swallow tablets whole with water. The initial dose may be higher (loading dose) followed by a maintenance dose, as directed by a healthcare provider. Regular monitoring of heart and bleeding symptoms is recommended.

Precautions

Inform your doctor if you have a history of bleeding disorders, stroke, liver disease, or low blood pressure. Use caution with activities that increase the risk of injury, as Brilinta increases bleeding risk.

Contraindications

Do not use Brilinta if allergic to ticagrelor or any component of the tablet. It is contraindicated in patients with active pathological bleeding or a history of intracranial hemorrhage.

Possible side effect

Common side effects include shortness of breath, headache, dizziness, or minor bleeding. Serious side effects may include severe bleeding, allergic reactions, or heart rhythm changes. Seek medical attention if severe symptoms occur.

Drug interaction

Brilinta may interact with anticoagulants, NSAIDs, aspirin, or other medications that increase bleeding risk. Inform your doctor of all prescription drugs, over-the-counter products, and supplements you are taking.

Missed dose

If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose.

Overdose

Overdose may increase the risk of severe bleeding or cause dizziness. Seek immediate medical attention if overdose is suspected.

Storage

Store Brilinta at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and light. Keep tablets in the original container and out of reach of children.
